Customer Lists

Customer Lists

Lists are static collections of customers that serve as the foundation for targeting in campaigns and journeys.

What is a List?

A list is a named group of customers. Unlike segments (which are dynamic), lists are populated manually through CSV uploads. A single customer can belong to multiple lists.

Common uses for lists include:

  • Newsletter subscribers
  • Event attendees
  • Product-specific audiences
  • Geographic groupings
  • Import batches (e.g., "January 2025 Upload")

Creating a List

  1. Navigate to Customers → Lists
  2. Click Create List
  3. Enter a name for the list
  4. Click Save

Create New List popup

The list is created empty. You'll populate it by uploading a CSV file.

Viewing List Customers

Customers in a List

Click on any list to view its customers. The customer table shows:

  • Email address
  • First name and last name
  • City and country
  • Score
  • Custom fields
  • Suppression status

You can paginate through the list and search for specific customers.

info

Deleting a list removes the list metadata and the associations between the list and its customers. The customer records themselves are not deleted — they remain available in other lists and segments.

Lists in Campaigns

When creating a campaign, you add lists as targets with two modes:

  • Include: Send to all customers in this list
  • Exclude: Skip customers in this list (even if they appear in an included list/segment)

You can combine multiple lists and segments in a single campaign's targeting configuration.

Best Practices

  • Use descriptive names: "Q1 2025 Webinar Attendees" is better than "List 3"
  • Keep lists focused: Smaller, purpose-specific lists are easier to manage than one massive list
  • Combine with segments: Use lists for static imports, segments for dynamic filtering
  • Clean regularly: Remove outdated lists to keep your workspace organized
